Professor Andreas Herrmann was born in 1963 in Munich where his studies at the Academy of Music under Professor Michael Gläser were followed by a number of international conducting seminars and master classes with such renowned choral conductors as Professor Eric Ericson and Professor Fritz Schieri.

He became Artistic Director of the Munich Philharmonic Choir, the partner choir of Munich Philharmonic Orchestra, in 1996, and since then has taken up the baton on behalf of such eminent conductors as Valery Gergiev, Lorin Maazel, Christian Thielemann, Zubin Mehta, James Levine, Mariss Jansons, Krzysztof Penderecki, Fabio Luisi, Kent Nagano, Ingo Metzmacher, Daniele Gatti, Pablo Heras-Casado, Ton Koopman, Thomas Hengelbrock, Ivan Fischer, Andrew Manze, Marco Armilliato, Kristjan Järvi and many others.

Part of Prof. Herrmann’s role at the Munich Academy of Music since 1996 has been the teaching of conducting and choral direction, with special emphasis on choral conducting. He directed the Music Academy Choir for ten years, during which time he oversaw the production of many large-scale oratorio concerts and performances of operatic and a-cappella works covering a wide range of musical genres. He took on ambitious projects, which included concert tours in many European countries, TV recordings, world premieres of new music and performances of early music using period instruments. Professional young choirdirectors from all over Europe seek his advice as a teacher with great success.

As a choral and oratorio conductor Herrmann has brought his skills to many other countries, including Austria, France, Italy, Poland, Hungary, Bulgaria, Switzerland and the People's Republic of China, and the success he has had in working with a multitude of professional choirs (RIAS-Kammerchor Berlin, Bulgarian National Radio Choir Sofia, Silesian Philharmonic Choir Katowice) orchestras and ensembles has ensured a long, happy and productive collaboration with the Munich Philharmonic Orchestra.
