Prof. Andreas Herrmann, geboren 1963 in München,
übernahm 1996 als Chordirektor der Münchner
Philharmoniker die künstlerische Leitung des
Philharmonischen Chores München. Dort leitet er
Einstudierungen für Dirigenten wie Lorin Maazel,
Christian Thielemann, Zubin Mehta, James Levine,
Mariss Jansons, Krzysztof Penderecki, Fabio Luisi,
Ingo Metzmacher, Daniele Gatti, Thomas Hengelbrock
und viele andere.
Seine Ausbildung an der Münchner Musikhochschule, zuletzt in der Meisterklasse von Prof. Michael Gläser, ergänzte er durch verschiedene internationale Chorleitungs-Seminare und Meisterkurse bei so renommierten Chordirigenten wie Prof. Eric Ericson und Prof. Fritz Schieri.
Im Rahmen seiner Tätigkeit als Professor an der Hochschule für Musik und Theater München unterrichtet er dort seit 1996 - vorwiegend im Hauptfach Chordirigieren. 2004-2005 übernahm Prof. Andreas Herrmann interimistisch die Leitung des Madrigalchors der Hochschule für Musik und Theater München. Ambitionierte Spezial-Projekte, wie Konzertreisen nach Italien, TV-Aufnahmen, Uraufführungen Neuer Musik und die Gestaltung von Programmen mit Alter Musik und Originalinstrumenten standen hier im Vordergrund. Zehn Jahre, von 1996-2006, leitete er den Hochschulchor und betreute in dieser Zeit unzählige Oratorienkonzerte, Opernaufführungen und A-cappella-Programme aller musikalischen Stilrichtungen. Große pädagogische Erfolge erzielt er in letzter Zeit mit der Ausbildung professioneller junger Chordirigenten aus ganz Europa, zuletzt im Oktober 2009 in einem Spezialworkshop über zeitgenössische A-Cappella-Musik in Vorbereitung zum Eric-Ericson-Award 2009 in Stockholm. 2010 gab er in Russe/Bulgarien einen Internationalen Meisterkurs mit Schwerpunkt auf Werken von Ockeghem, Josquin, Gabrieli, Bach, Strawinsky, Schnittke und Pärt.
Internationale Konzertreisen als Chor- und Oratoriendirigent führten ihn unter anderem nach Österreich, Frankreich, Italien, Ungarn, Slowenien, Rumänien, Bulgarien, Ägypten, in die Schweiz und in die Volksrepublik China. Mit zahlreichen Chören, Orchestern und Ensembles entfaltet er über sein Engagement bei den Münchner Philharmonikern hinaus eine rege Konzerttätigkeit. CD-Produktionen, wie zuletzt die Choreinstudierung für Carl Goldmarks „Merlin“, die mit dem „Echo Klassik - Operneinspielung des Jahres 2010“ ausgezeichnet wurde, und zahlreiche Rundfunk- und Fernsehaufnahmen dokumentieren Qualität und Rang seiner musikalischen Arbeit.

Herrmann became Artistic Director of the Munich Philharmonic Choir, the partner choir of Munich Philharmonic Orchestra, in 1996, and since then has taken up the baton on behalf of such eminent conductors as Christian Thielemann, Zubin Mehta, James Levine, Mariss Jansons, Krzysztof Penderecki, Fabio Luisi, Ingo Metzmacher, Daniele Gatti, Christopher Hogwood, Thomas Hengelbrock and others.
Part of Herrmann's role at the Munich Academy of Music since 1996 has been the teaching of conducting and choral direction, with special emphasis on choral conducting. 2004-05 he became the Acting Director of the Madrigal Choir of the Munich Academy of Music. He also took on ambitious projects, which included concert tours to Italy, TV recordings, world premieres of new music and performances of early music using period instruments. From 1996 to 2006, he directed the Music Academy Choir, during which time he oversaw the production of many large-scale oratorio concerts and performances of operatic and a-cappella works covering a wide range of musical genres. Professional young choirdirectors from all over Europe seek his advice as a teacher with great success, recently in a special propaedeutic workshop about contemporary music for a cappella choir for the Eric Ericson Award in Stockholm in October 2009. For March 2010 he is preparing an international masterclass in Russe/Bulgaria with focus on Ockeghem, Josquin, Gabrieli, Bach and Paert.
